AMBIENT Light

New way of lighting...

Set the mood and transform any space with ambient lighting

Custom Architectural Lighting, Designed Around Your Space

CeilDex Light combines translucent stretch surfaces with LED lighting to create luminous ceilings, illuminated walls, architectural light boxes and integrated lighting features. We work with architects, interior designers and contractors on residential, retail, hospitality and workplace projects in Los Angeles and across California.

Each system is developed around the lighting intent, the geometry of the space and the conditions on site. Discuss your lighting project with our team.

Choose Your Architectural Lighting System

Backlit Stretch Ceilings & Illuminated Walls

A translucent stretch membrane is tensioned into a perimeter profile, with LED sources positioned behind it. The membrane diffuses the light and conceals the lighting components, creating a broad luminous surface.

Use this approach above a reception area, as an illuminated showroom wall or to define a lighting zone within a larger interior. Surface dimensions, LED layout and available depth are coordinated together to develop the intended appearance.

Architectural Light Boxes — Shape of Light

CeilDex Shape of Light combines a framed stretch membrane and integrated backlighting in a defined module. Rectangular, circular and custom forms can be developed around the interior concept.

Surface-mounted or suspended arrangements are selected to suit the space. Module dimensions, delivery format, support requirements and installation access are confirmed for each project.

Integrated Linear Lighting

Use continuous lines of light to define circulation, emphasize geometry or connect ceiling and wall features. Linear lighting can be coordinated with stretch surfaces and architectural profiles.

Planning includes corners, intersections, transitions and the relationship between the visible light lines and surrounding finishes. LED output, diffusion and controls are considered with the overall lighting design.

Ambient & Indirect Lighting

Reveal the shape of a floating ceiling, emphasize a perimeter or introduce a wash of reflected light. Concealed LEDs can become part of the ceiling detail while keeping the source out of direct view.

The profile arrangement, nearby surfaces and their reflectance affect the result. We consider the illuminated detail together with the room.

Design the Light, Then Coordinate the System

A luminous surface needs more than a bright LED source. The membrane, lighting layout, cavity and surrounding finishes work together to determine its appearance and performance.

  • Surface appearance: membrane selection and installation geometry influence diffusion and the finished visual effect.

  • Light distribution: LED spacing and the distance to the membrane are coordinated to reduce hotspots and uneven areas. Large or unusual details may benefit from a representative mockup.

  • Brightness and visual comfort: the required output depends on whether the surface provides general illumination, a decorative accent or part of a layered scheme. Diffusion alone does not establish glare performance.

  • Color and controls: fixed white, tunable white or color-changing configurations are selected for the intended use. Drivers, dimming methods and controls must work as a compatible combination.

  • Service access: driver locations, access routes and the method of opening the surface should be considered before the construction detail is finalized.

Materials, Drivers & UL Documentation

Vecta Design membranes are selected to suit the project, with different light transmission, diffusion, finishes and available widths. The membrane, LED layout and installation depth are coordinated together.

We typically use MEAN WELL HLG series LED drivers, with power rating, output voltage or current and dimming version selected to match the lighting design.

Vecta Design's catalogue displays UL Classified and ULC Listed marks. Its T-403 White datasheet states Class 1 (UL USA) and B-s1,d0 (Europe). MEAN WELL HLG documentation includes UL 8750 approvals. Applicable classifications and approvals are checked for the specified material and driver model; component approvals do not establish a UL Listing for the complete custom assembly.

Planning Information for Architects & Designers

Share a reflected ceiling plan, section, dimensions or concept images. The most useful starting points are the intended lighting effect and the space available to build it.

  • Lighting role: general illumination, feature lighting, accent lighting or a combination.

  • Geometry: overall dimensions, shapes, curves, openings and adjacent finishes.

  • Available depth: cavity dimensions and obstructions at the proposed location.

  • Light quality: required output, color temperature, color rendering and visual comfort.

  • Controls: dimming method, zoning, scenes and the proposed control system.

  • Construction: mounting surfaces, electrical provision, sprinklers, HVAC and other ceiling elements.

  • Maintenance: driver access, LED component access and the membrane opening method.

  • Documentation: applicable material data, electrical component information and project requirements.

CeilDex can assist with profile selection, lighting layouts and installation coordination. Request the technical information relevant to the proposed assembly so your design team can review the selected materials and components.

Applications & Project Examples

Retail and showrooms: luminous ceilings and illuminated walls can define display areas and provide an architectural identity. Hospitality: light boxes and indirect details can become part of a reception, lounge or dining space. Residential: coordinate backlit surfaces and light lines with kitchens, living areas and other interiors. Workplaces: use luminous features to organize reception areas, meeting rooms and circulation.

CeilDex Light projects include soffit ceiling installations at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills and REVOLVE in Los Angeles. View our project photos.

From Concept to Installation

  1. Share the brief: location, plans or dimensions, reference images and the intended lighting effect.

  2. Coordinate the solution: membrane, profile, lighting approach, mounting conditions and controls.

  3. Confirm the scope: proposed configuration, site responsibilities, installation arrangements and project estimate.

  4. Install and review: coordinate installation and review the completed surface and operation against the agreed scope.

Architectural Lighting Questions

Can a backlit ceiling be the main light source?

It can be designed to contribute general illumination, but the required output must be assessed for the room and its use. Membrane transmission, LED layout and the complete lighting scheme affect the result.

How much depth does a luminous ceiling need?

There is no single depth for every system. The LED source, spacing, surface dimensions and membrane affect the required cavity. Share the available section so the proposed construction can be reviewed.

Can the lighting be dimmed or change color?

Dimmable white, tunable white and color-changing options may be specified depending on the selected equipment. The LED source, driver and control method must be compatible; the configuration is confirmed during project development.

Can it work with my control system?

Share the control requirements early. Compatibility should be checked against the exact driver and control equipment, including the required dimming behavior. A brand name alone does not establish compatibility.

How are the LEDs and drivers serviced?

Access is planned as part of the assembly. Depending on the system, it may be provided by opening the stretch surface or through separate service locations. The access method should be shown in the final detail.

Can lighting be combined with a printed surface?

Printed translucent surfaces can be considered for ceilings and walls. The image, membrane and backlighting should be evaluated together because they affect color, transmission and appearance.
